Eastwood, the town in which
"DH Lawrence" is from and a town that back in the day when DH Lawrence was alive would have been very different - and yet it is still possible to walk around Eastwood and see some of the places and locations that were used within his books and stories. And yet today on the 3rd of March 2025, whilst on a short walk, I just had to capture a view of Eastwood, this time from a more unique perspective and that was from roughly 85 metres high, of course looking on a map of Eastwood and you would see what seemingly looks like any other ordinary town, but it is not - geographically Eastwood is unique, for a start at the top end and a short distance away from the main town of Eastwood is an aptly named area called
"Hilltop" from Hilltop a slightly more gentle incline eventually leads you to Eastwood - and whilst it might appear flat, Eastwood is actually located like Hilltop on the ridge of a Hill, with gentle sloping streets and roads that drop down on either side, this photograph was taken from just behind Eastwood Cricket Club, and shows a vista of the town of Eastwood, Lynncroft
(A unique and interesting road that has links to DH Lawrence, as it is a place that he used to live, although just fairly recently it was put up for Auction, but he lived on Lynncroft between 1903 and 1908. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-65312319) But Lynncroft in terms of its uniqueness also links the Hilltop/Dovecote Road part of the town to Greenhills Road which is located geographically at the bottom of Eastwood and in a strange way it provides a shortcut from the top end of Eastwood to the bottom end of Eastwood.
Just off Lynncroft and not too far from Greenhills Road is where you can find The Breachouse:
https://dh-lawrence.co.uk/breach_house.htm which is located on Garden Road, and is again where DH Lawrence lived after moving from his childhood home on Victoria Street. Again in the photo, you can see Lynncroft and Greenhills Road, but you can also see the unique landscape and ridge that Eastwood is located on, with the gentle rolling hills that on one side lead down to what DH Lawrence called
"The Country of My Heart." and on the other side of Eastwood, the gentle hills that lead down and slope down from the ridge that Eastwood is located on, well they give way to The Erewash Valley, an area of Borderlands that split Nottinghamshire from Derbyshire.
